THE OPTIMUM 9400 Vs. Vitamix Blender Review/Comparison

Vitamix and Optimum are considered the industry's highest quality blenders, both with great reviews and praise for quality and performance. As an American company, Vitamix is double the price in Australia compared to the price in the United States (For essentially the same product). However, as an Australian company, Optimum's price in Australia is cheaper than other countries including the United States.

The Optimum is rated as the #1 competitor to the popular Vitamix by the reputable Choice Magazine, along with various independent reviews. With focus on quality as well as performance, Optimum© has proven a world class supplier of quality domestic and commercial blenders and juicers, designed to outlast and outperform competitors.

Optimum Vortex Blender V.S. Vitamix - Verified 3rd Party Testimonials

Fantastic Blender!

5 out of 5, reviewed on Apr 04, 2016

This vortex blender is fantastic! Easy to clean, chops, blends, purees perfectly. Recently I mistakenly purchased teff seeds rather than flour - no problem with my Optimum as I just tipped them in the jug and a few seconds later, I had flour!

Redefined my kitchen

5 out of 5, reviewed on Mar 30, 2016, viewed 177 times

My wife is a full-time post-grad student and I work a busy office job so we have little time to cook. On top of that, we can't afford some of the vegan products sold in the grocery stores here in New Zealand. After owning and selling our beloved Vitamix Pro 500 we thought we'd never be able to afford one again and wouldn't ever lower our standards. Then a friend showed us her Optimum blender and explained that it's everything you need in a high-powered blender but at about half the cost of Vitamix and Blendtec…

Pulverized everything!

5 out of 5, reviewed on Jun 23, 2015

I've owned a magic bullet for 2yrs and use it almost daily. My little boy loves smoothies (and me) so was keen to hide all sorts of good vegies in there but disappointingly lots of lumps - even bananas. Much research into this blender and saw in comparison to Vitamix it was rating much higher (and Froothie are having an end of financial year sale - yes). Made my first green smoothie today (kale , apple, carrot, pineapple & mint). I'm not kidding in 20secs it was blitzed to smitherines,,,not one lump. My son didn't appreciate the sound but wow, I'm so impressed. Seriously one happy camper :)

Optimum - Froothin' Amazing

I could not live without my Optimum blender... I was searching for a vitamix and found this instead and it has been the best blender ever! I use it every day, several times a day. Review from the Raw Food Mum

As much as we love our Vitamix it is a high price point item for those starting out on a healthy journey with their families and this was my concern as I promote raw food for families. For some families purchasing a blender over a $500 price point is just not going to happen, which means that entering the world of green smoothies and raw food can be a bit limiting. I wanted to find a blender that I could stock in my online store that matched the Vitamix with quality and a blender that families could actually afford. I also wanted to make sure that by putting my name behind something .. that these blenders would cut it especially knowing how we use them! HERE ARE FEW MORE REASONS WHY I LOVE THE OPTIMUM BLENDERS ….

Review from Choice

The Vitamix and Optimum both allow you to create endless amounts of healthy, nutritious foods. Their powerful motors allow them to handle heavy loads better than most standard blenders. In comparison to the blenders we’ve tested, the Vitamix is up there with the better scoring models, and would make our What to Buy list. Following the re-test of the Optimum, it too would make our What to Buy list

Better than my Vitamix

It is every bit as good as claimed. We bought this to replace our Vitamix. We haven't been disappointed with our purchase and have found it better than our Vitamix.

Froothie/Optimum VS Vitamix

Optimum user review

I have now used the blender for all the recipes I made with Vitamix. I am pleasantly surprised and unequivocally convinced the Optimum 9400 has the same result and build quality as the Vitamix. The longer blades were also very effective for grinding, and with the additional speed the job was done quicker than my Vitamix in some cases (note I never purchased the Vitamix dry jug which could have a similar result when grinding to the Optimum). Smoothies both had the same great texture, everything blended in seconds.

Great Value!

I had always wanted to buy a vitamix but am so glad I found the Optimum instead. It is more powerful (my friend has one for me to compare), also easy to use and clean.

I am thrilled with my Optimum 9400, it is fast efficient and makes the worlds best smoothies. Best Ever Blender

I came across the froothie website and saw that it looked the same and can do all the same things, and that is has even has more impressive specifications than a Vitamix. This is a quality product that is designed to last as it actually allows you to select a 10 year warranty on it (I chose a 5yr warranty). I really love this machine and it is just so easy to clean and maintain - you just basically rinse it out and there are no hidden areas that trap food - so simple. Everything that is said about it is true.

What a great product!

I spent a while searching and comparing different products on the market, even considering the Vitamix and the Blentech (Both reputable brands). I luckily stumbled across a few Youtube clips and forums showcasing an Australian blender range by Froothie… Thank you Froothie, the product is simply awesome. The exceptional design, quality and power of the Optimum 9400 at an affordable price makes it hard to beat. I can quite confidently say the blender is on par if not better than the leading blenders on the market. If anyone is looking for a great quality Australian owned blender with excellent customer service then I highly recommend the Optimum 9400 by Froothie.

Amazing blender and service from Froothie

So I thought a Vitamix was my only option if I wanted a machine to last more than a year or two at the most. I am just over the moon with my Optimum - not only can it blend anything that the other high powered blenders can, it does it at a realistic price, has a 10 year warranty, and the service that I received from Brian was right up there with the best I have ever received as a customer

Review from Health Yeah

I've been through a fair few blenders in my time and there have been some highs and lows. There was the shall-not-be-named Briscoes blender that catapulted smoothie all over my kitchen as I lifted the jug from the base. The blender that obliterated my spatula. The one that shimmied across the bench when it was on so you had to keep all hands on it. These blenders suited my banana berry smoothie habit just fine, but when I discovered green smoothies, plant-based and raw meals, I felt an upgrade was in order.

Love my new blender!

I had a nutribullet that blew up after 1 month. After extensive research (including looking into buying a vitamix) i purchased the Optimum 9400 … My friend has a vitamix and the quality is identical. As an added bonus it is actually quieter than the vitamix! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a blender.

Search for the 'right' blender

I have been searching for a high speed blender for some time, but was unable to afford a Vitamix - which is so much touted. I read a review about blenders on Wellness Warriors blog and from there I learnt about the Optimum 9400. I followed up through Froothie and found this particular model on sale. I can honestly say it is all it says it is. I am delighted with it and now make creamy smoothies on a daily basis. Plus nut butters, nut mylks, pesto, etc. I do not regret my decision at all and I sincerely highly recommend this Optimum high speed blender.

Kick-starting my family’s health with the Optimum 9400 (2ND GEN)

Originally I was thinking of purchasing the Vitamix but luckily hubby came to the rescue as usual and saved us not only money but also kickstarted our health with the Optimum 9400! We love the Optimum 9400 so much that we decided to purchase my parents one for my dad’s 60th this year, let’s just say they can’t stop raving about it. It’s so easy to use and assemble, and washing up is just a r inse away! Thanks Optimum for an awesome product!

I use the 9400 (2ND GEN) twice a day!

I use this blender for smoothies, soups, sauces and desserts, and am most impressed by the speed and power, as well as by how well it handles regular use. It's easy to clean, and, after six months, shows no signs of wear and tear. It's the only blender I've used that deals well with berry seeds, and completely blends tomato skin, ginger and other root vegetables (thick carrots and raw beets). If you can afford it (and it's so much cheaper than a Vitamix, with), I highly recommend the Optimum 9400.

A wonderful Aussie product and warranty

I bought the Optimum 9400 as a separate blender to my Thermomix instead of buying a second bowl, and I'm so glad I did. Initially, I did a raw food course and embraced a 'real' food way of eating. It's not enough to mash the food- all the goodness such as vitamins, minerals etc need to be retained to keep your body healthy on a cellular level. The same applies to healing your body, and I believe the Optimum cuts food without bruising. I use it all the time for smoothies (better than a Thermomix and equal to a Vitamix), and for dips, dressings, sauces, shredding, milling, batters - and the list goes on. It saves heaps of money - no more store-bought goods with artificial flavouring, chemicals, anti-fungal, anti-goodness rubbish. The Optimum 9400 is a fantastic appliance.

A Great Healthy Addition To Any Kitchen

My previous blender just couldn't do the job properly and I had to return it to the store twice for replacement parts. Not willing to spend the $1200 or so on a Vitamix, I researched online and found the Froothie Optimum 9400 for a fraction of the price and a great performer. I love it's large jug capacity, it is easy to assemble, clean and use and especially blends my green smoothies perfectly in no time at all. I received great service, ordered it online Thursday and it was delivered Friday. Thank you Froothie for making my life easier :)

  • Hi Roy and the team at Athena Solutions, I would like to say that I have received my Optimum and the help and support from your team has been really reassuring. The blender has truly performed well. It blends beautifully, makes great smoothies and even hot soup. I have had a Vita-mix from my daughter while deciding which blender to purchase and the Optimum has been just as good, doing all that the Vita-mix does, so I am very happy with the result and the price is much more attractive, with the same 10 year warranty. Thanks so much

  • I would like to thank you firstly for your wonderful customer service. Right from the start you were most helpful with all information and advice I had asked for. Also I appreciate how easily contactable your company is.
Secondly I would like to say how happy I am with the Optimum. I was previously using a standard blender that was brand new out of the box and after one month of using it, it had blown up. I make quite a lot of smoothies and needed something more durable. After using the Optimum for the first time I was so happy with how quick and easy it was. The smoothie's come out so smooth and creamy and taste great. It saves me time and makes it more appealing to use on a regular basis. I can whip things up in no time at all and I find myself wanting to make more. I absolutely love it and have been bragging about it since I got it.
I'm drinking a smoothie as we speak that I whipped up this morning. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face this morning because I blended a whole bunch of stuff and it was so quick and easy which makes it so much more appealing as like everyone else, I'm so busy and time is so precious.
My friend was also interested in purchasing a new blender, after seeing my new Optimum, she purchased the same one the next day. Im sure anyone who purchases the Optimum will be extremely happy as I am.
    Thank you again.
    Kind Regards
    Venesa Jovanova (Tuggeranong, ACT)

  • Dear Froothie, Thank you for organising the prompt delivery of our new Optimum blenders. • I Love my Optimum!! I'd like to say a big thank you for the sale of such a great machine, I love my blender so much it's had me eating so much healthier.
    Laura Exarhos (Yarralumla, ACT)

  • Hi I just received blender, It felt very light in the box and I was worried that it must be small, when I opened the box I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the base. Next I couldn't wait to try it out to see if it was any good, so I tried my favourite test banana milk shake, no fuss… broke up big pieces of banana with 200 ml of milk blended for 35 sec; well I am impressed, no sign at all of any residue, that's the best result I have ever had, and in only 35 seconds. Very impressed, can't wait to try cocktails this weekend.
PS. Easy to clean, put some water in, turn on 10 seconds, tip out and drain on bench.
    Anthony Butler (Bendigo, VIC)

  • I am thrilled to let you know that the blender arrived today! It's absolutely fantastic! I really appreciate the excellent customer service I've received - I won't hesitate to recommend the Optimum or Froothie/Athena Solutions to everyone I know!
Thanks very much for your help, Rebecca
Rebecca and Philip Davis (Ranelagh, Tasmania)

  • Dear Roy
I received my blender (delivered at work) on Thursday. My whole office knew it was coming - I couldn't contain my excitement in the build-up. On my lunch break I ran off to the markets and grabs some vegetable and fruit ingredients to blend. The anticipation was high. I blended two juices to share with my colleagues; one an incredible Popeye drink of cucumber, green apple, ginger, mint, lime and spinach, the other papaya, mango, grapes and mint. Both were delicious and amazingly smooth in texture.
I couldn't wait to get it home and try blending with ice. Once home I did another vegetable juice, a fruit frappe and a Freddo Espresso. Now if you don't know what this is there's a picture below. Simply a shot or two of espresso, sugar or honey and ice blended smooth. Amazing!
I'm chuffed with the Optimum and can't wait to try more recipes! So please send me the PDF as it's available.
I'm yet to try grounding our coffee beans or making almond paste but I will and report back on how it goes. The almond paste will be a special one if I nail it. It's inspired by Amalou - a spread made from Argan nuts in Morocco - the same nuts that are pressed for cosmetic Moroccan oil. It has nuts, cinnamon and I think tahini in it.

  • Yeah, so far it's great. I used it the very first day to make a composite nut butter of almonds, cashews and brazil nuts. And I did all that on the lowest speed. I liked the way the vortex actually moved the entire viscous mix up the sides and down the centre until it was all smooth. There are other makes that won't do that with viscous pastes as parts get stuck on the walls and corners.
    Andrew Healey (Mansfield, Queensland)

  • Hi Mario,
Yes all good. I am impressed with the blender .. it's more like what I wanted compare to the previous machine.. this one is very much like the vitamix.
nice to have some programs but good to be able to just turn it on and let it run for a long or short as I like. blending is very smooth.. thanks again for all your help

  • Hi Roy,
Just letting you know I LOVE the our blender. I couldn't believe how quick it was delivered! I basically make green smoothies for breakfast since being inspired by the literature that is around. I must say I am a complete convert! The smoothies are smooth and creamy and my breakfast takes less than 30 seconds to blend.
    Yours in Froothie heaven,

"So let me tell you a bit about the Optimum 9400 blender. It happily stands up against its main competition - Blendtec and Vitamix - and in fact outperforms them in many categories. For example, it can spin faster than both, and has more blades - which means it takes no time at all to get a perfectly smooth result. It took just seconds to get my banana smoothie nice and creamy!"Read More

"I do have a blender from a well known designer brand, and often make spreads and dips such as Hummus but noted in comparison that it did not offer the same creamy smooth bit-free that I got from the Optimum 9400. The other thing I noted immediately is that majority of the blenders that I have used in my life would take a good 10-15 minutes in reaching the point of creamy smoothness, as well as a lot of stopping and scraping down of the blitzed vegetables from the sides. The time was massively reduced with the Optimum 9400 blender.    "Read More

For example, if you popped some peanuts into the jug and wanted them rough ground for a Thai style salad dressing, due to the power of the blades within no time you'd have peanut butter! "The reason power blenders such as Vitamix and Froothie’s Optimum 9400 are great for making custard is that you can throw all the ingredients in to the blender jug, switch on and gradually ramp up the speed to its highest setting. Simply leave the blender running for several minutes; the speed of the powerful blades generates enough heat to cook the custard. Believe me, after 7 minutes, our custard was steaming hot! And because we had confidence in the power of the blades, we dropped the solid pieces of white chocolate straight into the hot custard and blended again. The Optimum 9400 blades broke the chocolate down quickly and the heat melted and combined it thoroughly into the custard base."Read More

"Being a fairly methodical person I really wanted to make sure that I had run it through its paces before I passed on my assessment. And I wanted to do a couple of side by side challenges against my Vitamix to see how my two machines compared.
For my head-to-head challenges I made today’s smoothie, a double batch of beetroot and cashew hummus, some frozen yogurt and sunflower seed butter. Both machines performed very well – as would be expected of high level machines. But there are a few points that may tip the balance in the Froothie’s favour:

            1. cost
            2. quietness
            3. ease of blending
            4. blending time

It's a matter of peeling the kiwis, separating the eggs and measure out the ingredients and placing everything in the jug. You'll end up with the maximum setting of 10. "As many of you know, I’ve been a devoted user of the Vitamix for years, so when the opportunity came along to try out the Froothie Optimum 9400 Blender I felt a little bit like I was cheating on an old and very dear friend. But I decided to have an open mind and see what this new kid on the block could do. A few weeks ago I stashed away my Vitamix and replaced it with the Froothie to see how it worked for my daily blending needs.
Daily? That’s right. I’m a pretty heavy blender user – I make smoothies for breakfast every day and often (at least once per week) use the blender for other tasks such as pureed soup, custard for ice cream, almond milk and cashew gravy. So far it's been a stellar performer and performed at least as well as the vitamix. If it excels in one area I'd say it's noise: the Froothie is noticeably quieter than my Vitamix. I also like the clear jug."Read More

"At first glance this sturdy blender with its 2 litre capacity is similar in appearance to the Vitamix, but in fact the engine is more powerful and slightly quieter (a big bonus!). For us though, the best thing is the blade – the Froothie blender has a 6 blade assembly, 4 facing up and 2 down. Why is this good? because when you are only blending small quantities, you get more a more efficient chopping of the ingredients than blenders with only upward facing blades (Vitamix included)."Read More

The Optimum 9400, which is available at a special introductory price, also has a 10 year extended warranty so you can be rest assured you will be using it for years to come. • Introduction

Froothie is the sole distributor of the Optimum© Vortex Blender in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and most recently Singapore. The Optimum brand is a collaboration of various well-respected manufacturers and suppliers, as well as Optimum Appliance's exclusive factory in Taiwan, made using the highest-quality parts designed to outlast and outperform expectations.

What makes a great Vortex blender is the quality of the parts used in the manufacturing process. Optimum prides itself for attention to detail, no inroads to cut costs jeopardising the quality and durability of the machine. This is demonstrated by the unrivalled 10-year warranty supported by Australia-wide service centres.

The commercial-grade Optimum is sponsored and used by various organisations and franchises, having appeared on various media channels including Channel 7, Channel 9, USA Herald, Indy Posted and Segment gaining recognition as one of Australia's most respected brands. Click here to view 3rd party verified testimonials, and here to watch our customers - Froothie TV.

The Vortex blender comes with a unique No Questions Asked 1-Month Money Back Guarantee.

  • Motor

The most important component of a Vortex blender is the power of the motor. The Optimum 9400 has an extraordinary 3 Horse Power motor able to easily withstand the toughest ingredients and outlast most other domestic blenders. The Optimum can quickly and easily emulsify fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains and ice into a silky smooth texture which can be used to make soups, ice cream, nut butters and sauces. At a ground-breaking speed the Optimum 9400 can also be used to grind grains and crush ice.

For Commercial Use, unlike other purely domestic blenders, the powerful commercial-grade motor of the Optimum 9400 can easily withstand the heavy-duty use of juice bars and cafes. At 2,238 Watts, making smoothies and milkshakes is a simple easy task for this durable commercial Vortex blender. The Carbon Brush self-compensating motor makes for not only an efficient use of energy, but also a quieter blending experience that cannot be offered by most other high performance blenders. What's more is that because the motor cools better, it also lasts longer.

  • Blades

The Optimum's blade assembly, a custom-alloy assemblage of special stainless steel manufactured to its finest in Japan and Taiwan, was purpose built for a quicker, smoother and more effective synthesis of ingredients. While most blenders have a 2 or 4-blade assembly, the Optimum consists of a unique 6-blade assembly, allowing it to blend even the thickest of foods. An additional 2 down-angled blades are designed to prevent any dense foods from getting jammed and creating a vacuum at the bottom of the jug.

The assembly is securely bolted to a shaft which connects to the bottom blade gear - a feature which then acts as the point of connection for the drive socket when the fully assembled jar and blade set is placed atop the Optimum motor. The six blades are a multipurpose assemblage allowing the Optimum's user to combine both wet and dry ingredients with both ease and efficiency. This superior and multi-faceted blade extends the capabilities of the Optimum far beyond the realms of other competitors, and makes for an otherwise unmatched blending experience.

  • Durability

While ordinary blenders have a fan motor that runs at maximum power at all times, leading to rapid motor burn out, the Optimum uses a proprietary carbon brush motor optimised to only use the power demanded - so you get a motor life of decades rather than months. This component is one reason Froothie offers clients the option for a 10-Year Warranty, supported by Athena Solutions Pty Ltd as well as the manufacturer Optimum Appliances Australia.

In addition to such feats, the Optimum's motor has an overload protection fault switch, ensuring that the motor is protected against overload damage. This goes above and beyond the overheat protection thermos found on most commercial grade blenders, as it means one can continue blending without having to first wait for the motor to cool down after overheating and switching off. And with a technology unrivalled by other high performance blending machines, the Optimum's Carbon Brush motor is the ultimate in blending motorisation for both those who are interested in its use within a commercial setting and/or a personal one.

Recent tests have also shown the Optimum to be quieter than competition with a noise level of only 80-85 decibels, a very important feature when being used in a family home or a quiet café/restaurant.

  • Optimum vs. Vitamix

The Vitamix TNC 5200, as well as other Vitamix models, is a high-quality blender with a very strong reputation. Competing with such a brand on a global stage is difficult to say the least, especially for a new entrant in the industry.

To counter this disadvantage, Optimum© has teamed up with globally recognised manufacturers to create a truly unique and powerful blender, while also providing clients the best assurance possible: A 30-Day Money Back Guarantee, No Questions Asked, with free return postage. This has led to tremendous success for the Optimum brand with demand highly exceeding all expectations.

At the top of this page you will see a factual comparison between the Vitamix TNC 5200 and the Optimum. It is for you to decide which blender to purchase. If you have any questions we will be more than happy to offer you honest advice, simply call us on 1300 309 900 or contact us here. We can assure you of one thing: Anything the Vitamix can make, whether that is a hot soup, a green smoothie or smooth nut butter, the Optimum can also achieve with no hassles.

  • Commercial Use

Trusted by juice bars and cafes around the country, including franchises such Wendy's and Gloria Jeans, the Optimum Vortex blender has cemented its position as a durable commercial appliance manufactured by world-class factories (ISO9000 and ISO9001 certified) using the highest-quality parts.

The Optimum is equipped with a self-compensating energy-efficient motor which can reach a power of 2,238 Watt and a staggering speed. The hammer-forged stainless steel 6-blade assembly is perfect for crushing ice in seconds to make the best smoothies and milkshakes. The motor is self-compensating, leading to reduced electricity consumption allowing the Vortex blender to withstand the heavy duty use of cafes and juice bars. To protect the motor from over-heating, the Optimum is also equipped with a shut-off switch ideal for juice bars seeking a long-lasting reliable blender.

  • The Manufacturers

The Optimum© factory is based in Taiwan, Australian-owned; more information here: www.optimum-appliances.com. Most parts are made in-house, with some parts imported from Europe and assembled by hand with precision technology and attention to detail. Each Vortex blender is tested for 5 minutes before being sent to Froothie for sale to customers, ensuring strict Quality Control measures.

Optimum Appliances has also teamed up with 3rd party manufacturers with decades-long reputations responsible for manufacturing parts for some of the industry's most-respected brands.

All manufacturers make use of state of the art equipment and engineering, with most parts being of either German, Taiwanese or Japanese origin. So much is certainly evident within the high grade stainless steel used for several of the Optimum's components, as well as in the self-compensating and highly energy efficient motor.

While you will see many similar copy-cat blenders, the Optimum is a high-quality machine manufactured using high-quality parts designed to withstand domestic as well as commercial use.
